Structure: Permanent, Full-Time, On-Site in Winkler, MB & some Travel required
Schnell Industries is currently seeking a highly organized and communicative Special Projects & Service Technician to support our service demands in our growing line of OEM products. This role is a critical need within the organization, with strong long-term growth potential as service continues to expand. While the primary focus will be field & customer service work driven through Sales, the successful candidate will also support in-house operations when not in the field.
This is a full-time, permanent role that plays a vital part in ensuring an excellent customer experience, providing service both within the sales process as well as post-sales process, and supporting and coordinating closely with Sales, Service, Parts, Purchasing, R&D, and Production Departments.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment, has strong attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform service calls to repair equipment, complete warranty work, and install upgrades
- Travel to customer sites to swap components, assemblies, and weldments
- Hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting in-house and in the field
- Modify and fabricate parts (drilling, grinding, welding) for custom jobs
- Assemble and fabricate custom weldments to meet R&D requirements
- Perform in-house fabrication and testing per R&D specifications
- Read and interpret blueprints, hydraulic schematics, and electrical diagrams (asset)
- Analyze assigned projects to determine scope and the best plan of action
- Work with local vendors for processes not completed in-house
- Become familiar with all departments to understand the full company capabilities
Required Skills, Qualifications & Attributes:
- Strong planning, forecasting, and problem-solving abilities with a hands-on, detail-oriented approach
- Highly organized and reliable, with strong time management, follow-up skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong technical & mechanical skill set, including basic or advanced welding skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to professionally and empathetically engage customers while coordinating effectively with cross-functional teams and leadership
- Comfortable working independently most of the time while collaborating effectively with others
- Proficient with spreadsheets, tracking systems, and strong computer skills, with the ability and desire to learn ERP software
- Calm, positive, and solutions-oriented under pressure, with the ability to manage challenging situations and customer concerns
- Possesses a growth mindset with a focus on long-term results and continuous improvement
- Demonstrates initiative and accountability, with the ability to align personal ambition with company success
- Strong business English skills, both verbal and written
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed

In-House Support Priorities (When Not Traveling)
- Transloader (TLX) Assembly
- Transloader Testing
- Transloader Rework on returned customer machines
- Assisting the Sales department with commissioning when additional support is required
- Building jigs and fixtures for transloader welding
- Assisting Maintenance with large projects as needed
- Assisting R&D in testing and building jigs & fixtures as needed
- One-off or custom assembly projects
- Maintenance support
Considered an asset:
- Experience using ERP systems
Reporting Structure & Growth Path
- Primary reporting alignment will be Sales, as this is where service growth is expected and where the role will eventually become predominantly full-time.
- When not required in the field, the technician will support shop-floor priorities as outlined above, during which they will report to the department manager that they are working together with.
